Engineering is, broadly, the application of science and maths to solve problems or to create something, like a machine, vehicle or building. Within the general field, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering are often seen as the main areas, though there are frequent situations requiring more than one of these areas, and computer, marine and aerospace engineering have emerged as additional branches in more recent times.

The work of engineers covers design, development, testing, production and maintenance; most individual engineers specialise in an area, while firms may offer a breadth of engineering services in a particular industry or for a particular technology.

In the manufacturing sector, goods are produced either by people, tools and machines, processes, or a combination, and is closely connected with engineering and industrial design. Of course, the industrial revolution started in the UK, and manufacturing still accounts for about 12% of national output.

What this means to you

Computers and IT are enormously important; engineers make extensive use of technology in all areas of their work, and it’s often the case that modern engineering processes wouldn’t be possible without it. Manufacturing too often relies on technology as a control mechanism for the process, or to enable the correct configuration of other equipment vital to it.

In this context, technology that doesn’t work is a big problem. It needs to be reliable, or the processes will slow down or stop. If problems do arise, they need to be sorted out quickly. And at a business-wide level, the technology provision needs to be fit for purpose and good value.”

Why we are good

We provide IT support and technology services to many engineering and manufacturing businesses and we cover Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay, Paignton and Exmouth, as well as the rest of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. We also have clients in places like Hampshire, Kent, London, Northamptonshire and even Scotland.

What we can do

Whether its IT services like technical support or servers, network and communications services like internet (broadband) connectivity or email systems, or cyber security services like malware (virus) protection or removal or compliance with standards like Cyber Essentials or others, we can help.
